Having wrapped up ‘Atrangi Re’, Sara Ali Khan discusses submitting to filmmaker Aanand L Rai’s vision to deliver what she considers one of her most exciting performances.
Becoming the heroine of Aanand L Rai’s film is a personal milestone for Sara Ali Khan. The actress, who has praised the filmmaker’s knack for carving female characters with flawed but strong leads, holds ‘Atrangi Re’ close to her heart. “After ‘Kedarnath’ [2018], which was my first film, ‘Atrangi Re’ has been the most exciting project for me in terms of performance,” began Khan, who wrapped the Akshay Kumar and Dhanush-starrer before the second wave. took. The country is in the grip of an epidemic.
While there was much talk about the apparent age difference between Kumar and Khan at the time of the film’s announcement, she says Rai has crafted a sensitive love story, which suits her signature style. “Anandji is the most kind and loving person I have ever met. On his sets, it is his emotions, purity and vulnerability that inspire him. He tries to take it out of his cast as well. I am not a trained actor, so I go by my conviction and the director’s point of view. It is important for me to be guided because I can go off-track. It is important for a director to tell me, ‘Sara, ye more ho gaya, do a little work. She has done that beautifully for me,’ says Khan, who has recently been roped in as the face of Zee5’s Dekhte Rahe Jayenge campaign.
Her last release with Varun Dhawan, ‘Coolie No 1’ (2020) was slammed by the audience as well as critics. The actor of four films took criticism with a pinch of salt.
“Every time I tell Varun that someone [bans it] on Twitter, he says, ‘We don’t have the box office to decide. All we know is that it’s going to be the highest for a long time.’ A film to be watched. A film like ‘Coolie No. 1’ needs to open multiplexes; it’s not the kind of film I can let Twitter judge. My [idea] success or failure is that I am my director I take the blame if the audience doesn’t take the style, but I have done my job with utmost sincerity.”
