Born July 9, 1942, in New Rochelle, New York,[2] to John Roundtree and Kathryn Watkins, Roundtree headed off to his home state of New York to begin acting lessons. Roundtree began his professional career around 1963.

Throughout his long career, Richard Roundtree appeared in more than 100 film and TV projects. In these works, he had the chance to act alongside some of Hollywood’s most famous actors, including Clint Eastwood, Peter O’Toole, David Niven, Laurence Olivier, Samuel L.
