Overview of PM Matru Vandana Yojana
The PM Matru Vandana Yojana, launched on January 1, 2017, aims to improve the health and nutrition of mothers and children and to compensate for wage loss during pregnancy and lactation. The scheme is implemented under the National Food Security Act (NFSA), 2013.
Benefits
- Cash Incentive: A total of ₹5000 provided in two installments for the first child.
- ₹3000 during pregnancy (after one antenatal check-up).
- ₹2000 after childbirth and the child’s first immunization cycle.
- Support for Second Child: An additional ₹6000 if the second child is a girl, given after her birth.
- Conditionalities: Ensures registration and regular health check-ups.
Eligibility Criteria
- Pregnant and lactating women above 19 years of age.
- Not applicable to women in regular employment with the central or state government, public sector undertakings, or those receiving similar benefits.

- Women from Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.
- Women with disabilities.
- BPL (Below Poverty Line) cardholders.
- Beneficiaries under PM Jan Aarogya Yojana (PMJAY).
- E-shram cardholders.
- Women farmers under Kishan Samman Nidhi.
- MGNREGA Job Cardholders.
- Women with family income less than ₹8 lakh per annum.
- Anganwadi Workers/Helpers and ASHA workers.
Application Process
Eligible women must register at the nearest Anganwadi Centre (AWC) with the following documents:
- Filled application form (Form 1-A).
- Aadhaar details.
- Mobile number.
- Bank/Post Office account details.
- Written consent for Aadhaar usage.
Forms can be obtained from the AWC or downloaded from the Ministry of Women and Child Development’s website.
