Legal Assistants are placed in Pay Level-7, as per the seventh Central Pay Commission. This means that the selected candidate will enjoy a competitive salary package in accordance with government norms.

Currently, there is one vacant position for a Legal Assistant.

To be eligible for the Legal Assistant role, candidates must meet the following criteria:

Eligibility Conditions:

A. Service Experience:

  1. Holding analogous posts on a regular basis in the parent cadre or department, OR
  2. Having at least five years of regular service in a post at level 6 (Rs. 35,400-1,12,400) of the pay matrix, as per the seventh Central Pay Commission or equivalent.

B. Educational Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Law from a recognized University or Institution.

C. Experience:

2. A minimum of two years of experience in legal matters in Central Government, State Government, Union Territory administrations, public sector undertakings, autonomous bodies, statutory bodies, or recognized research institutes.

Age Limit:

The maximum age-limit for appointment by deputation (including short-term contract) should not exceed 56 years as of the last date of receipt of applications.

Legal Assistant Key Responsibilities:

Legal Opinions & Commentary: Analyze and provide legal opinions on matters before the Ministry. Prepare detailed comments on OAs, Writ Petitions, SLPs, and PILs against the Ministry.

Scrutinize Documents: Review counter affidavits in line with the Ministry’s comments for accuracy and completeness.

Diverse Legal Tasks: Undertake various legal tasks as assigned, contributing to the Ministry’s legal strategy and policy decisions.

Case Management: Maintain and monitor a comprehensive list of pending court cases within the Ministry.

Court Representation: Assist and represent the Ministry during court hearings as required.

Health and Integrity: Ensure candidates are in good health and uphold impeccable integrity.

Policy Assistance: Support the Ministry in policy decisions and legal matters as needed.

Recommendations & Actions: Handle court matters, analyze legal issues, and recommend actions to the Competent Authority.

Ad-hoc Duties: Perform any other tasks as assigned by superior authority.

Additional Notes:

  • The period of deputation, including any previous deputation in another ex-cadre post immediately preceding this appointment in the same or another organization or department of the Central Government, should not ordinarily exceed three years.
