In the dystopian world of ‘Ganapath,’ narrated through a compelling voiceover by Dalapati (Amitabh Bachchan), humanity grapples with the aftermath of a devastating war. The film envisions a future where most of the world’s population has perished, leaving a meager number of survivors struggling to eke out an existence in a desolate landscape. As the rich consolidate their resources, they erect the futuristic metropolis of Silver City, where almost anything can be acquired at a cost. Meanwhile, the residents of this opulent oasis revel in a hedonistic lifestyle, with their preferred pastime involving betting on ruthless MMA matches hosted by the nefarious Dalini.
Ganpat Movie Review
On the other side of the spectrum, the impoverished inhabitants grow even more destitute, navigating life based on a ‘might is right’ mentality. Years ago, Dalapati introduced a fighting concept akin to ‘The Fight Club,’ allowing disenchanted citizens to vent their frustrations through combat. However, the elite soon co-opted this sport, transforming it into a formidable betting empire, with the best fighters from the impoverished sector becoming mere pawns in this high-stakes game. Guddu (Tiger Shroff), though not a fighter himself, possesses an uncanny ability to predict winners and serves as a spotter for John English, the boss. Unfortunate circumstances lead Guddu into his boss’s bad graces, resulting in an order for him to be buried alive. By a stroke of divine intervention, Ganapath escapes his impending doom and is urged by another henchman, Kaizaad (Jameel Khan), to seek refuge in the downtrodden quarter and find Shiva (Rahman). It’s there that he encounters Jassi (Kriti Sanon), falls in love with her, and begins his journey to acquire fighting skills. In doing so, he may well emerge as the prophesized savior, Ganapath.
In-Depth Exploration::
Director Vikas Bahl, widely recognized for his work in films like “Queen” (2014), “Super 30” (2019), and “Goodbye” (2022), steps out of his comfort zone with ‘Ganapath,’ delving into the world of action cinema. The film appears to draw inspiration from notable sources such as “Mad Max,” the video game “Tekken,” Bruce Lee’s “Enter The Dragon,” and “The Blood Of Heroes.” It follows a progression fantasy narrative, where the hero faces increasingly challenging obstacles before ultimately emerging as the champion.
This subgenre, popular in the West, is somewhat unconventional in Indian cinema, making Vikas Bahl’s venture into this territory a courageous move. The heart of such films lies in their fight choreography, and ‘Ganapath’ seems to have nailed that aspect. The fight sequences mirror the intensity of MMA cage fights on steroids, delivering a fast-paced, high-octane experience that’s sure to appease action enthusiasts. Tiger Shroff, with his remarkable physique and martial arts prowess, is the perfect choice to play the hero, executing kicks and punches with finesse. Kriti Sanon, too, impresses with her action scenes, particularly her skills with nunchucks. Malayalam actor Rahman, in his Hindi debut as the blind sensei Shiva, adds to the film’s appeal with his screen presence.
The film attempts to infuse elements of mysticism, spirituality, and emotion, seemingly drawing inspiration from the likes of “Star Wars.” This blend of coming-of-age themes and miraculous occurrences makes ‘Ganapath’ a mixed bag that caters to a broad audience. Unlike the uncertainties faced by Luke Skywalker, our hero’s journey unfolds without similar doubt. The film is structured in two parts, with the sequel scheduled for future release, possibly introducing new challenges for our hero.
Conclusion:
‘Ganapath’ beckons audiences into a futuristic realm filled with intense action sequences and the sculpted abs of Tiger Shroff. With a mix of dystopian settings, martial arts, and a dash of mysticism, Vikas Bahl’s foray into the action genre promises a cinematic experience that keeps viewers on the edge of their seats. Stay tuned for the sequel to see what lies ahead for our formidable hero.
